The Near-Surface Seismic Investigation Consortium (NSSIC)


 

 

Facilities 

    

The Consortium will be based at the Earth Sciences Department (ESD) and the Center for Petroleum and Minerals of the Research Institute (CPM/RI) in KFUPM.  Therefore, the Consortium will have access to the facilities of the ESD and CPM/RI.  These include: 

1.      A Sun Ultra Enterprise 450 server with two processors and 2 gigabyte RAM.

2.      Two Sun Ultra 80 workstation clients.

3.      Several Linux-based personal computers.

4.      Several Windows-based personal computers.

5.      The following software packages:

a.       Focus and GeoDepth.

b.      GeoFrame and IESX.

c.       AVO and STRATA.

d.      MATLAB.

e.       MATHEMATICA.

f.        MESA.

g.       Kingdom Suite.

6.      Several geology and geophysics laboratories with equipments such as a scanning electron microscope (SEM), a multi-channel seismograph, a ground penetrating radar (GPR), a digital gravimeter, and others.

7.      Two four-wheel vehicles for field studies.
